Do professional footballers ever serve their entire sentence in jail when found guilty?
I started
actually looking into this due to Mason Greenwood and the allegations made
against him and if he will actually get the time he deserves behind bars if he
is found guilty of all these allegations, but whilst doing my research I found
out that footballers actually don’t finish their sentences in prison and that
is if they actually go to prison
Marcos
Alonso was involved in a car crash but he was driving a good 70 kph (40 mph) over
the speed limit on a wet road, whilst under the influence of alcohol as he was
0.4 mg per milliliters of blood over the legal limit in Spain. He was sentenced
to 4 years but it was said that he would have to spend 21 months in prison he
ended up spending 0 nights in prison because he came to an agreement with the
victims’ family and they settled for a rumored fee of about 500k euros and he is
now playing for Chelsea F.C
Adam Johnson
was found guilty of grooming a minor and sexual activity with a child he was
sentenced to 6 years but only spent 2 years in prison another example is Jerome
Boateng a world cup winner and a champions league winner was found guilty of
premeditated bodily harm on his former partner but was only ordered to pay a hefty
fin of 1.8 million euros, these are just a few examples of recent incidences
involving professional footballers
Does this give me hope that Mason Greenwood will serve his entire sentence if found guilty of the allegations made against on rape and domestic violence? Yes, but does it look like he will serve his entire sentence? That I highly doubt because we have a track record of professional footballers getting a slap on the wrist for their crimes but this isn’t just about fame it’s also about the money that they have in order to get the best lawyers to defend themselves in court and pay these hefty fines
In a world
where we are all “equal” the rich and famous usually get lighter sentences than
regular folks, I guess George Orwell was right in animal farm that some are
more equal than others. This is actually saddening for the victims and their
loved ones. Is justice ever fully served against the rich and famous?
